Oct 28, 2013 weeks to months. It take weeks to months to clear completely. The Plaquenil is supposed to kick in in 3 to 6 months. I think it was 8 months for me. One day I was congratulating myself for getting so many things done and I realised that the days had been getting better without my noticing. In the beginning I also was on a low dose of prednisone, which helped until plaquenil kicked in. Most people say about 6 months. It works over time. It's pretty suttle. One day all the sudden you will notice that your arms or legs or feet don't feel as bad as they used to. Not that it is a cure all but it usually does help.

  3. I’ve been taking Plaquenil for 6 months now & it’s been working well for me. It took a good 2 full months to start working. I’m not having as much pain & swelling in my fingers, wrist & elbows. I still get flare ups, but nowhere near as bad as I did before taking Plaquenil.

To treat malaria Plaquenil is usually given for 3 days, starting with one high dose followed by a smaller dose during the next 2 days in a row. Take Plaquenil for the full prescribed length of time for malaria. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. With Plaquenil, however, the most commonly prescribed anti-malarial, this sort of damage occurs only in 1 out of 5,000 people who take the drug for five years or more. For this reason though, it is important that you see an ophthalmologist for an exam before starting to take an anti-malarial medication for your lupus. Hello all, I am currently new to this site and ran across the discussion about stopping Plaquenil. I have been taking Plaquenil for about 8-9 months and thought that it was not helping me because I still have a fair amount of joint pain, fatigue, muscle pain and so many other issues.

I ran out of my Plaquenil RX for about a week or so. Now the other is hurting badly and I'd guess it's time to have a look at the other knee just to keep track.
