I have been diagnosed for 12 years and I was a complete mess at first. Initially, I was only on Prednisone, then Plaquenil as well. Plaquenil worked wonders for me. I have now been off the Prednisone for 2 years and only on 300mg of Plaquenil daily. My doctor says there are lots of studies proving Plaquenil is very beneficial to those with lupus. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria.
