    Hydroxychloroquine psoriatic arthritis

I am new to this struggle and my MD is trying to be rather conservative because severe hypothyroidism is complicating my symptoms. But, any info I find is that this medication is sometimes used for RA and can actually make psoriasis worse.

Interest in hydroxychloroquine treatment of psoriatic arthritis has been revived because of recent series found no exacerbation of psoriatic skin lesions in 50 psoriatic arthropathy patients treated with hydroxychloroquine. It is known that antimalarial drugs that are helpful in LE are contraindicated in psoriasis 1. This old concept is supported by the recent study of Wolf et al. 11, who demonstrated that hydroxychloroquine induces hyperproliferation and irregular keratinization in cultured skin of psoriatic patients. I started on plaquenil for Psoriatic Arthritis in 2015. 200mg twice daily. I didn’t feel too bad but a huge bout of stress made my symptoms worse. I then started methotrexate in addition to plaquenil. My rheumatologist suggested once daily Plaquenil and that seemed okay. After a while he said I coujd stop it as he was not sure if it was.
